Could This Be The Coldest Halloween On Record In Iowa?
This Halloween, many kids will be going door to door in their Iowa neighborhoods to collect as much candy as possible. When you answer the door to give them candy, you might be able to hear their teeth chattering.
It's going to be a very cold Halloween in Iowa and in Illinois. Will it break the record for the coldest Halloween on record? There's definitely a good chance.
Coldest Halloween In Iowa Happened Recently
Halloween in the Quad Cities has been pretty decent in recent years when it comes to the weather. In 2022, we saw a high of 70°, 55° in 2021, and 65° in 2020, according to the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities.
But in 2019, we saw a Halloween that looked like a scene out of the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. 3.1 inches of snow fell on the Quad Cities and we set a record for the coldest Halloween by only reaching a high of 34°. The record low was set that night when temperatures only reached 24°.
Artic Air Blasts Into Iowa On Halloween
Just in time for trick-or-treating, a good chunk of Artic air is going to blast into Iowa and the Quad Cities. The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities says that the blast will start to roll in on Saturday and temperatures will drop drastically as we get to Halloween.
As you can see in the graphics above, the high at the Quad Cities International Airport in Moline, Illinois will only get to about 35° at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31st.
No Snow For Halloween But A Record Could Be Broken
I have good news and bad news for you. The good news, nay, great news is that we won't have snow on Halloween like we did in 2019. As a matter of fact, we'll see sunny skies on Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The bad news, we have a solid chance to tie the record for the coldest Halloween on record, if not break the record. With a few days still left before Halloween 2023, things could still change for the better, but most likely the worst.
