Could Iowa Unemployment Run Out of Money?
First off, I don't want to scare you with this. But, with all of the furloughs and layoffs here in Iowa, I keep wondering: Will there be enough money to go around for all of the unemployment benefits?
I stumbled across an Associated Press story this morning that posted some figures. It stated that the "U.S. Department of Labor reported 46,356 people in Iowa filed for unemployment benefits in the week that ended on April 11. The week before 67,334 people filed."
Yike. That's a big number and it looks like more people are potentiality going to need these same benefits. I really hope there is enough cash to take care of everyone here in Iowa. I just hope we don't see the unemployment pool run dry. There are too many people here in Iowa that need the help right now.
Let's hope for the best.
