City of Cedar Rapids To Resume Waste Collection From Alleys

Crews continue to work hard to clean up the city after the August 10 derecho, and since then, the city of Cedar Rapids has temporarily quit taking trash and recycling from carts in alleyways as a measure to move it to streets in front of customers' homes so that debris could be safely cleared following the storm.

A message from their website says: "if your regular collection day is Thursday and you previously had your garbage/recycling/yard waste collection in the alley, the collection will return to the alley starting Thursday, December 3."

The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling division continues to work with area utility providers to remove potential alleyway obstructions such as low-hanging wires and scattered debris and notes that alley collection will only take place with regular Thursday customers, starting tomorrow, December 3, according to Iowa's News Now.

All other customers will continue to have their regular waste collection taken from the front of the street until further notice. There is an interactive map on the City of Cedar Rapids website that shows, in green, which neighborhoods will start having their waste collected from alleys this week.
