Every year on July 4, you're invited to celebrate Independence Day and wrap up the annual Freedom Festival in downtown Cedar Rapids, with a day known as the "Celebration of Freedom". It wraps up with fireworks at dusk, but there are so many more events and activities that line the day.

Everyone loves a good car show and the Freedom Festival presents one at 8 a.m. on the 4th. Veteran's Memorial Coliseum is the site for a pancake breakfast and live music from the Vintage Jammers from 8-noon.

The evening celebration starts at 4 p.m. This year, you should converge upon the 2nd Avenue bridge, as the 3rd Avenue bridge has construction ongoing.

Coolers are allowed on the bridges, but no outside food and drinks are allowed into the Amphitheatre where live music from Boot Jack starts at 5 p.m., followed by the Johnny Holm Band at 7. Activities on the bridges include face painting, balloon art, bungee trampolines, inflatable zone for all ages, military vehicles and exhibits and more.

Find a spot early to enjoy the Celebration of Freedom fireworks, starting at dusk. Music will be synchronized to the fireworks again this year on 104-5 KDAT.

All events are free with your Freedom Festival button.

Happy 4th!
