More room for the furbabies to roam!

That's what KCRG says the Cedar Valley Humane Society is looking for. They serve 46 towns across Linn, Johnson, and Benton counties, and the space they currently operate in needs to grow.

They have big plans, but in order for much of it to happen, they say they need an extra $4 million in fundraising. They are already halfway there.  Aside from alleviating the stress on the animals from the noise and overcrowding, shelter officials say they'd like to add a multipurpose building for classes and vaccine clinics. They currently must limit those programs due to limited space, because it also requires them to shut down normal, day-to-day operations for them.

CVHS program director Hannah McFarlane told KCRG, "right now we’re kind of limited to how many we can do yearly just because we have to stop operations for the day and close adoptions and stuff like that here because there’s just not enough space."

They are also planning to add an adoption center wing to the current facility so that adoptions and (unfortunately) surrenders don't have to happen out in the open at the front desk.

Groundbreaking on that additional multipurpose building will happen in March of 2022, with a groundbreaking on the new adoption center taking place next fall.

Make no mistake, they still have the goal of sending the animals in their care home with the right family fur-ever, but wish to make their stay at CVHS an even more pleasant one. The Cedar Valley Humane Society is located at 7411 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE and their hours of operation are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 5 Saturday and they are closed on Sunday.
