Two different Cedar Rapids revitalization projects have one combined name, ConnectCR. The goal is two-fold. To beautify and improve the area around Cedar Lake and to add an amazing pedestrian bridge in the area of the New Bohemia District and Czech Village. To make it happen, $7 million needed to be raised. According to the Economic Alliance Report, private fundraising started in September of 2018 and $4.3 million was raised by the middle of April. Now the campaign has been opened to the public. Here's a look at the plan:

I think it's an exciting project. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the transformation of Cedar Lake. 100,000 motorists drive through downtown Cedar Rapids every day on I-380. That's a lot of eyeballs looking at something beautiful and inviting.

The south side of downtown, especially the NewBo area, is booming. However, after the 16th Ave. bridge, there's no way across the Cedar River. This gorgeous 14-foot-wide pedestrian bridge with the 192-foot-tall smokestack would act as another way across the river and would help connect trails as well. It will also be visible from I-380.

Two great projects and one name. You can donate to the ConnectCR project HERE.
