Residents of Cedar Rapids can help jump-start the city's ReLeaf program following the destruction of much of the city's tree canopy, caused by the August 10 derecho.

Trees Forever and Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust have partnered with the City of Cedar Rapids for a pair of tree adoption events. Any Cedar Rapids resident can purchase two trees or shrubs at a cost of $10 to $15 each. Trees will be between three and six-feet, in height. Each will come in a five-gallon planting bucket. The shrubs will be somewhere between two and five-feet tall. They will come in a three-gallon planting bucket.

You can select trees and bushes HERE, while supplies last. Each one you purchase has to be planted at your home within one week of the pick-up dates. Those are:

  • Sunday, October 25: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. You must reserve and pay for trees/shrubs picked up on this date by October 23.
  • Sunday, November 1: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Noelridge Park Pool Parking Lot. You must reserve and pay for trees/shrubs picked up on this date by October 30.

Along with the trees/bushes you pick up, you'll also get care information. Anyone who is unable to plant the items themselves can get assistance from volunteers from Trees Forever on your pick-up day.

The City of Cedar Rapids has been one of the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA cities for over 40 straight years. This is a small way that we, as Cedar Rapids residents, can help make sure that continues while at the same time beginning the re-beautification of our own properties and this great city.
