Cedar Rapids Prep To Sign NBA Contract
Following a great career at the University of Iowa, and a 20-point and 20-rebound game last week in the NBA Developmental League, an NBA contract awaits.
Jarrod Uthoff, who averaged 13 points per game during his Iowa career which ended last March, is set to sign a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association. Uthoff was named Iowa's Mr. Basketball in 2011, following his senior campaign at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
The story was originally reported, via Twitter:
According to the News-Sentinel, Uthoff was traded from Raptors 905, a Canadian team in the NBA Developmental League, to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants late in the month of January. Since the trade, Uthoff has taken his game to an entirely new level. He's averaging more than 17 points, 9+ rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. During the last five games, the numbers are even more impressive: 21.6 points and 12.4 rebounds. Last week, in a single game, Jarrod put up 23 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. No wonder Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and the coaching staff has decided to make this move.
I've lived in Cedar Rapids 27 years and I can't think of another former Cedar Rapids prep stepping foot in the NBA during that time. Can you? For that matter, has it ever happened before?
Congrats, Jarrod, and good luck!
