It's been a tough year for former Cedar Rapids Prairie star Scott Schebler, but last night just might have made it all worthwhile.

Schebler played 75 games at AAA Louisville, after struggling early in the season. Last night, following the trade of outfielder Jay Bruce, Scott was back in the bigs with the Cincinnati Reds. He returned with three hits, including a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals. According to the Dayton Daily News, the blast left the bat at 110 miles-per-hour and landed 410 feet from home plate. Make no mistake, either, it was a BLAST.

It was Schebler's fifth home run in the major leagues and only his second with Cincinnati. He hit three last year for the Los Angeles Dodgers. You know I'm a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, so this hurts. The fact that a former Cedar Rapids guy hit it helps alleviate the pain, but only slightly.

My favorite part of the story is that Scott apologized to the Cardinals for his "bat flip," not seen in the videos. There's that Iowa-nice coming out, that we all appreciate so much. Congrats, Scott. Something tells me the Reds are going to be glad they're giving you the opportunity to play every day. Just look at that smile in the postgame locker room.
