Cedar Rapids Man Loses Dice Game, Shoots at Winners

A Cedar Rapids man is once again behind bars after being released from federal prison.

According to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, 29-year-old Devin T. Pendleton of Cedar Rapids lost a dice game in Waterloo on the morning of Saturday, June 13. Authorities say that led to gunfire.

The Courier reports that court records indicate that, after losing, Pendleton pulled out a handgun at a home in the 800 block of Grant Avenue in Waterloo while insisting his money be returned. A call to police at approximately 8:15 a.m. the morning of June 13 led police to discover that as people in the home ran for their vehicles in a parking lot, Pendleton started firing, hitting one vehicle.

Pendleton was still on the scene when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to a Waterloo hospital due to a medical issue, that was not revealed. When Pendleton was released by the hospital on June 20, Waterloo police arrested him.

Formerly of Waterloo, Pendleton was charged with intimidation with a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. He has two felony convictions involving guns. In 2008, he was convicted for involvement in a man being shot in the back on Sumner Street in Waterloo. Four years later, he was convicted of firing into a crowd on Broadway Street in Waterloo.

Pendleton had been in federal prison just prior to the incident in Waterloo on Saturday, June 13. He was released seven days earlier, on June 6.
