Cedar Rapids Man Charged with Trying to Murder His Father
A Cedar Rapids man is behind bars today, charged with trying to kill his father early this morning.
According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, 26-year-old Jared Young Bear and his father, Jonathan, got into an argument at a home in the 4000 block of Wilson Avenue S.W. just after 3:45 a.m. Friday morning. The argument escalated and Jared allegedly stabbed Jonathan in the abdomen, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Jonathan Young Bear, 65, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition has not been released.
Son Faces Charges
Jared Young Bear has been charged with Attempted Murder, Assault Domestic Abuse with Intent to Commit Serious Injury, and Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. He is being held at the Linn County Jail, without bond.
Cedar Rapids Teen Ruled Competent to Stand Trial in Death of His Parents
This morning, KCRG reports that a judge has ruled that Ethan Orton is competent to stand trial, following a medical evaluation. Orton is charged with the October 2021 murders of his parents Casey Orton and Misty Slade at the family's home in northeast Cedar Rapids. His trial is currently scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
Murder Trial Delayed For Cedar Rapids Man Accused of Killing Sister & Parents
Another Cedar Rapids murder trial involving a man accused of killing his parents and sister on June 15th, 2021 has been moved to later this year.
Alex Jackson of Cedar Rapids faces charges in the deaths of Jan, Melissa, and Sabrina Jackson inside the family's home on Oak Leaf Court NE. Jackson's trial was originally scheduled to begin in late January but the Linn County Attorney's Office confirms it is now slated to start on Tuesday, April 5.
