As the flu death toll in Iowa rose drastically over the past year, hospitals began implementing visitor restrictions.

Mercy Medical Center and Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids have since scaled back those restrictions as the flu season begins to wind down.

Children are still not allowed to visit in the obstetric and pediatric areas, but grandparents and parents in good health will now be welcomed back. Any further rise in flu cases will likely put some of these restrictions back into place, according to the Gazette.

There have been 207 flu-related deaths in Iowa since October 1.
