Cedar Rapids Free Clinic Sets Up Vaccine Waitlist for 65+
The excitement and relief felt in knowing you or a loved one can finally get that COVID-19 vaccine and take the first step back towards "normal" is something that can not be matched.
I'm happy to report my father is scheduled to get his this week at a local pharmacy. But with those facilities as well as medical care providers and public health department offices reporting that they are still pretty backed up on a limited supply of the vaccines according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, it can be hard for many older adults to know where to look and who to call.
CBS2 reports, meanwhile, that a health facility in Cedar Rapids has set up a waiting list for low-income, uninsured, and in-need residents aged 65 and up to get their shots for free. Their hotline is dedicated to those lacking technological resources or savvy to use other online scheduling systems.
For those in that group who've had trouble navigating the resources on where to get it, the Community Free Health Clinic can now help. It starts today and they will take calls every Monday through Thursday from 9-11 a.m. from eligible Iowans.
The catch is, they don't have any vaccines just yet. They simply want to organize for when they do, which they expect to be soon. Once they arrive, those on the list will get their shots.
Community Health Free Clinic is located at 947 14th Ave. SE and to get yourself or your loved one on the waitlist, you can call (319)200-2550. All you'll need to provide them with when calling to get on the list is the vaccine recipient's legal name, date of birth, address, two phone numbers where the recipient can be reached or that of a close contact on their behalf, and the recipient's mother's maiden name.
All of that information can be sent by mail or dropped off in person as well at the free clinic to Community Health Free Clinic, 947 14th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids 52401.
