Cedar Rapids is rolling out a new Bike Share program this week. People can now rent a bike and take a spin around town. Sounds like fun, right? Well, it may sound like fun....but it's not cheap. Let's breakdown the cost:

  • It's $1 to unlock the bike or scooter.
  • It will cost you 15 cents per minute of use.
  • It will add up to $9 per hour to cruise around Cedar Rapids.

If you ask me, that's a little expensive. You can get a brand new Roadmaster Granite Peak mountain bike at Walmart for just $78. At $9 per hour, the bike would be paid for after 8.6 hours of total usage.

Maybe this is for visitors or people who will only bike once a year. If you ask me, the whole thing seems a little weird. What do you think?

Comment below and we can discuss!

In the meantime, I'm gonna head to Walmart and find a bike.
