CDC Says ‘Do Not Eat This Cereal!’
The Centers for Disease Control is warning consumers to avoid a popular cereal after a salmonella outbreak. So far, 100 people have fallen ill after eating the Kellogg's cereal Honey Smacks.
The cereal was officially recalled by the company in mid-June. At least 30 people have been hospitalized. So far no deaths have been reported. The CDC did not mince words when issuing their warning on Thursday. The said bluntly, "do not eat this cereal." They warned not to eat any size box of the cereal no matter what the used by date was.
Kellogg's recalled an estimated 1.3 million cases of the cereal, but officials say they still believe the cereal is being sold in some areas. Salmonella strains were found in unopened boxes and leftover samples of Honey Smacks cereal. Even though the recall covers cereal with best by dates of June 14th, 2008 through June 14th, 2019, the CDC is urging consumers to avoid the cereal altogether.
