Hey, it's going to be in the mid-upper 30's today! Not too bad for mid-January, right? Not at all as the average high for this time of the year is about 29. Hold on to that notion that 29 is average, though would ya? Because that's going to seem tropical as the week rolls on. Oh, and you might want to find out how polar bears do it because it's going to feel like a slice of the arctic in eastern Iowa in a day or so...

Dangerously cold wind chills are on their way

It's Iowa, these temps happen, but it doesn't soften the blow much when you're going from the mid-to-upper 30s, to almost that far below zero, right? KWWL reports our temps are about to go on the downhill part of the rollercoaster.

An arctic cold front is heading our way, with 15 to 25 mph winds, and gusts blasting to 35 mph. Between that, and some blowing snow, our wind chills will fall, erm, plummet, to the -15 to -35. YAY (no one ever).

Temps will be much colder by Wednesday evening, and bitter, brutally cold for Thursday and early Friday. That negative 35 mentioned above will be most likely on Thursday night. By Friday, temps will warm... a bit and we'll reach highs (without the wind chill factored in) of around 20. Yipee.

A look on the bright side?

It's not all doom and gloom, though. Now you can tell all your friends and family who reside in warmer climates that you no longer need a screw to hang something on the outside of your home. You just need to spray some water on the house and stick it up. It's sure to stick through the rest of the week. See, always a silver lining.

Did You Know Most Iowa Counties Have Their Own Flag?

We all know the state of Iowa has a flag, but each county? Of Iowa's 99 counties, a majority do in fact have a flag.
