An Eastern Iowa City Has Released Its Own Monopoly Game [PHOTOS]
In 2023, the Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 100 year anniversary. In honor of that, they have released a new version of Monopoly that is entirely based on the city of Monticello, Iowa!
The idea for Monticello-Opoly came from Bobby Krum, Monticello's Executive Chamber Director. Back in February, he began selling ad spaces so that local businesses could be a part of the game. After selling 65 ad spaces, he sent the game out to be produced in June. It just recently arrived here in Iowa.
Monticello-Opoly is filled with familiar names for residents of Jones County. Some of the businesses on the board include Blind Pig, Jellystone Park, The Market at the Tap, Fresh Market, Monticello Express, Whiffle Tree Mercantile, The Cone Shoppe, All Seasons Auto Body, Monticello Family Dentistry, and more. The "Community Card" is sponsored by Giggle Juice Liquor Station, and the "Fate Card" is sponsored by The Grove Bar & Grill in Scotch Grove. Even the money in the game is sponsored! For example, the $10 bill is brought to you by F&M Bank, the $50 bill is from McDonough Real Estate, and the $500 bill is sponsored by Citizens State Bank.
If you want to get your hands on Monticello-Opoly, you have to stop by one of the participating local businesses. Right now those include Dollar Fresh Monticello, Off His Rocker, Whiffle Tree Mercantile, and Blind Pig Monticello. The games sell for $29.99, with $10 from each game going to the business it is sold at. There are only 350 games total, so you'll want to pick yours up before they're all gone!
