Allegiant Air has made it easier for Iowans to get to many more desirable locations without having to catch a connecting flight at a bigger airport. The airline features direct flights to hotspots like Orlando, Punta Gorda, Nashville, and coming soon...The Big Apple!

Allegiant has announced that direct flights will soon begin from Des Moines to Newark, New Jersey, according to KCCI. The Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the airports that serve the New York City area. Suddenly, if you're like my 13-year-old daughter Carly, and say, want to watch your favorite hockey player from the New Jersey Devils live in action, and you live in Iowa, you can fly east and watch him live! Or perhaps take in a Broadway show, or tour the Empire State Building! I'd take a casual stroll through Central Park.

Allegiant Air opened a new $50 million base in Des Moines last year according to KCCI. The airline promised more connecting flights would be added, and New Jersey is a big one. The Newark flights are now part of 30 direct flights around that country from Des Moines.
