A New Comedy Bar & Arcade Has Opened in the Corridor
If you could use a laugh, a new Iowa City comedy club has opened for business!
Back on October 1st, the Iowa City Yacht Club in Iowa City officially became Joystick Comedy Bar & Arcade. The new venue is located at 13 South Linn Street, right underneath Studio 13. While the Iowa City Yacht Club was focused on live music, Joystick is putting an emphasis on comedy. According to the official website:
"With live local, regional and national comedians every week plus open mic every Monday & Thursday, you can escape for a laugh six nights a week (we're closed Sundays in honor of our Saturday hangover). Plus we have karaoke every night except Monday and an ever growing selection of arcade games to play."
If you're familiar with the look of the Iowa City Yacht Club, a new article from the Iowa City Press-Citizen says you won't notice too many changes inside the venue. The space is still owned by the Corridor Entertainment Group, but now the stage is slightly smaller and they have some arcade games. There are actually more arcade games on the way, including skee-ball, but delays because of the pandemic mean that they'll arrive later than expected.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy at Joystick! As we mentioned above, there is karaoke Tuesday through Saturday night, open mic on Monday and Thursday, Free Play Tuesday, and lots and lots of stand-up comedy. You can check out their full calendar of events HERE.
Joystick Comedy Bar & Arcade is open Mondays from 8 p.m. to midnight and Tuesday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Some events are for ages 19+ and some are for all ages. You can follow the Facebook page HERE for the latest updates.
Here in Cedar Rapids, we're still waiting to hear about the reopening of Penguin's Comedy Club, which is under new ownership. A Facebook post from July says they were hoping to open in September, but we haven't heard anything since. We will let you know when any new info is available!
