As I watch the news each day, I can't help but feel a bit helpless when it comes to the situation in Ukraine. Being on the other side of the world, it doesn't feel like there's a whole lot we can do as individuals to assist all the people who are suffering. The best way to help right now seems to be with donations, and there are lots of organizations that could use them.

One of the organizations that is already overseas offering relief to the Ukrainian people is World Central Kitchen. According to their Facebook page:

"Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond."

Back in 2020, World Central Kitchen had volunteers here in Eastern Iowa to assist people after the derecho, so a local restaurant is now paying it forward. Fong's Pizza in Cedar Rapids has begun selling a cocktail called the Drink for Peace, and 100% of the proceeds are going to WCK and also the We Stand With Ukraine fundraiser to help feed and send supplies to Ukrainians. The beverage consists of passion fruit, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, and Tito's Vodka, which ends up being blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

You can stop in to Fong's Pizza in the NewBo District at 1006 3rd St SE and order their Drink for Peace, but there are other things you can do to help, too! For example, people all over the world have begun booking Airbnbs in Ukraine. You can read more about that effort HERE.
