A Cedar Rapids Pizza Restaurant Has Closed Its Doors
Say goodbye to pizza over in the Czech Village. According to a recent Facebook post, Hospoda has closed its doors for good.
Hospoda first opened its doors at 62 16th Avenue SW in December of 2021. The pizza restaurant took over the building that was formerly home to Aces & Eights, which closed in June of that year. Owned by Eric Lennie and Manny Maldonado, Hospoda specialized in unique Neapolitan-style pizzas. The menu featured flavors like Lasagna, Pistachio Pesto, and White Clam.
On Friday, October 20th, Hospoda surprised their Facebook followers with the announcement of their closure. The post reads:
"It's with heavy hearts that we announce Hospoda will be closing. Our last day will be this Sunday, October 22nd.
It's been a pleasure and honor to be a part of this community and the Czech Village neighborhood. We've made lifelong memories and lifelong friends in our time here and couldn't be more grateful for your support over the last couple of years."
The restaurant didn't give any specific details about why they decided to close, but they will certainly be missed. A comment from Facebook user Kent Lauterwasser reads:
"Sorry to hear this. Always the best craft wood fired pizza, craft beer lineup, service and laughs. Definitely will be missed."
Another comment from user BD Carithers says:
"This is terrible news and a huge loss for the neighborhood. You have been a big part of what makes this area of Cedar Rapids such a special place to live and work. Good luck and best wishes as you begin new adventures."
Hospoda had many positive online reviews, with a 4.9-star rating on Facebook and a 4.7-star rating on Google. We hope that whatever business moves in next will live up to the restaurant's legacy.
