Yesterday on Facebook we talked about the best concert you have ever seen. That inspired me to look into the biggest concerts to hit Eastern Iowa. Well, that's way WAY too broad, so instead, I narrowed it down to the best concerts to roll through Cedar Rapids in the 1980s. I did some research online using a called Concert Archives and reached out to some folks on KRNA's Facebook to see what they thought, based on their comments on the best concert post.

Here's the list we've come up with including setlists thanks to Concert Archives, in no particular order:

KISS - The Animalize Tour 12/18/1984 - Five Seasons Center (now the PowerHouse)

I love KISS. They're one of the if not the greatest live bands of all time. Pyros, lights, stunts... BLOOD. A KISS show's got it all. For the Cedar Rapids stop, the boys brought Queensrÿche with 'em.

This tour, which I could not find a name for, rolled into CR on November 16th in '83, and Sioux City, Iowa the very next evening. Featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Cheap Trick, this show was probably pretty sweet. I couldn't find exact setlists for these shows, so I used ones from other shows in the tour.

Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls Tour 9/8/1987 - Five Seasons Center

What a show this must have been... Whitesnake opened for the Crue. Sure, Vince Neil recently had a... poor outing in Boone, Iowa, but I have no doubt in '87, he was on fire. Though it is funny the band did covers, including "Helter Skelter", which Vince pretty much butchered last weekend in Boone.

Motley Crue Setlist:

  1. "All in the Name Of..."
  2. "Live Wire"
  3. "Dancing on Glass"
  4. "Looks That Kill"
