5 Things You Must Do Before Summer Ends
You need to experience the cotton candy world of fun that is the Iowa State Fair. From carnival rides to live music to corn dogs on a stick, there is nothing that will make you feel more like a true Iowan than a day at the State Fair.
There are more than a few speedways in Eastern Iowa, and each of the local tracks offer something a bit unique. From Independence to Hawkeye Downs, and a zillion points beyond, you need to speed into a local dirt track near you for a night of action-packed auto racing before the end of the season.
While the weekend reservations may be a bit difficult to secure this late in the season, you can always find some campsites open during the midweek, so why not take a few days off work and get back to nature? You have plenty of great state parks to choose from and even more county parks that offer camping.
You don't need to ask this guy twice if you're looking to hit the links. And Iowa has it's fair share of beautiful courses, many are just a short drive away. Get it? A short drive. So stop putting around (sorry, I'll stop it soon) and make a reservation for a tee time before the summer zips by.
If you're just plain cheap like me, then at the very least invite over your family and some friends for an old-fashioned cookout. You get to play with fire (always a plus) and enjoy the laughter and companionship of those you love most. Before long the autumn leaves will be falling and then comes the winter wind and snow. By then it will be too late to sip an ice cold lemonade and relax in the hammock under a shady tree. You owe it to yourself to unwind this summer. So just do it. You can thank me later.
