Whoa! Area Restaurant Giving Deal Based on “How High” You Are
Today is Wednesday. That's all, right? Oh, wait, no... it's 4/20. An unofficial stoner holiday. Tat's good news for potheads and, also for people who are hungry and looking for a decent deal on a Wednesday.
Before I get to that, a quick education: why is "420" so associated with weed culture? A Vox article says one belief for the significance is,
...a group of Californian teenagers ritualistically smoked marijuana every day at 4:20 pm
A second take on the meaning,
that 420 was the California police or penal code for marijuana, but there’s no evidence to support those claims
Whatever the reason, whatever the actual origin, today is a meaningful day for many. To be blunt, it's not my cup of tea. Or, erm, gummi? But I do love a good deal on food so, I'm on board.

There are several big chains, many with Iowa locations, that have a deal today. Of 'em, one major highlight that rewards customers for actually BEING high! Well, kinda...
All Jimmy John's locations are offering a specific percentage off of your order on 4/20 based on how high... your city is. Sorry stoners, it's about elevation, not bloodshot eyes and smoke plumes.
As you can see, eastern Iowa simply is not that high. In fact, we're flat out... well, flat. The "highest" city in America? Leadville, Colorado. With an elevation of over 10,000 feet above sea level, the folks there get free subs and swag today. Niiice.
Restaurants with area locations that also have deals today include seem limited, but you can see a full list from CNET here.
Oh, and by the way, marijuana is still illegal in Iowa. Sorry.
