It doesn't seem that long ago that Cedar Rapids lost its Sears and both of its K-Marts, and their closings here may have felt like the end. But it wasn't, as there are still 12 more Sears stores and 2 K-Marts left in Iowa.

A new report says 100 more stores between the two will close nationwide by the end of the year, but it is unclear which ones. The long road to oblivion for a pair of once-mighty chains continues, as the retail apocalypse claims more victims.

The Sears website says Burlington, Carroll, Clarinda, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Marshalltown, Mason City, Oskaloosa, Spencer, and Waukee are its remaining stores in the Hawkeye state. Sears at Lindale Mall closed in 2018.

K-Mart still has Algona and Charles City locations open. Cedar Rapids K-Mart stores closed in 2012 and 2013.

Liquidation sales at locations that are closing will begin in October.

While the official list of closings has not been released, a USA Today article includes the potential list, with none of them being in Iowa. Click here for that info.
