Two times last week, a popular lottery game had its jackpot won. While the person who purchased a ticket in eastern Iowa didn't win either of those jackpots, they still became a millionaire.

On both Tuesday and Friday, April 12 and 15, someone won the Mega Millions jackpot. The Tuesday drawing was worth $110 million and was won in the state of Minnesota. On Friday, April 12, the jackpot was claimed again. That time the $20 million jackpot was cashed in with a winning ticket in Tennessee.

[UPDATE TUESDAY, APRIL 19] We now know the person who won the $1 million. He indeed is from Iowa and he believes a mistake by a clerk helped him win the cash. You can read the story here.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Also on Friday, a person who purchased a Mega Millions ticket in West Burlington, Iowa won a million dollars. According to Mississippi Valley Publishing, that winning ticket was purchased at the MK Mini Mart at 101 E. Mount Pleasant Street in West Burlington. The million-dollar ticket had the first five numbers correct but missed the Mega Ball. Yes, they were just one number away from winning $10 million, since there was only one winning ticket in Friday's drawing.

Even though we don't know who purchased the winning ticket yet, they could be the third new Iowa millionaire thanks to the lottery this year. Karla and Keith Elenz of New Hampton won $2 million in the Powerball back in January.

Friday's winning numbers were 4-17-20-46-64. The Mega Ball was 23. The Megaplier was 4.

The Mega Millions jackpot has already been won four times in 2022. It was claimed six times in all of 2021 and just five times in 2020. The game started in the spring of 2002. An explanation of how to play the game, and the odds, are available here.
