I was born in Davenport, Iowa, arriving in a cold, dark new world where a Barbra Streisand album was #1 on the charts and disco was in its heyday.  After growing up in Maquoketa and graduating from UNI, I’ve been in radio off and (mostly) on since 2000.  I’ve been in the Cedar Rapids area since 2006.  Married with child.  Been having a blast being part of the KRNA air staff since late 2012.  Favorite KRNA artists: Pearl Jam (seen ‘em 29 times), Tool, Nirvana.

What Song Was #1 When You Were Born?

There’s a cool website, that tells you what song was #1 on the charts the day you were born.  Maybe it was the last song your mom heard on the radio before getting to the hospital?  Maybe it’s the song she was humming as the epidural kicked in? For me, March 3, 1977 saw the Eagles topping the charts with “New Kid in Town” from their Hotel California album.

Today would’ve been Kurt Cobain’s 48th birthday.  Almost 21 years after his death, his music is still a centerpiece on many alternative and rock radio playlists across the country, including KRNA’s

In Honor of President’s Day, Some of the Best Presidential Arm Candy

I’d like to take a moment to honor a couple leaders of our great country. I don’t have the patience to highlight the men that best served our nation. Rather, I thought I’d direct my focus on a couple presidents that scored a hot wife!

Weekend In St. Louis

The nice thing about a trip to St. Louis is that it’s only a 4.5 hour drive.  That’s the last nice thing I’ll say about that city!  I took a wrong turn and ended up across the river in East St

Weekend From Hell

I came down with a severe cold late last week.  All the good stuff: Constant runny nose, itchy red eyes, mucus the color of Gumby.  I had to use so much Kleenex on my nose that I’m now sporting a dry, flaky irritated look around my nostrils – probably what Tony Montana of Scarface looked like after a coke bender

Stop and Smell the Coffee… Then Guzzle

Thank you Dunkin’ Donuts on Blairs Ferry for making this day tolerable.  Up at 5:45am to shovel the 6 inches of snowfall off my driveway, I was sure this day was destined for disaster.  Little did I know

NFL’s Domestic Violence PSA’s… What Do You Think?

It's been a turbulent season for the NFL and its commisioner, Roger Goodell.  By now, we're familiar with the disturbing stories of two of the game's top running backs, Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.  There's also been plenty of discussion concerning Goodell and the league's bungled handling of these matters

Happy Birthday, Bill Hicks!

The late comedian, Bill Hicks would have turned 53 years old today.  Sadly, his life was cut short by pancreatic cancer in February 1994 when he was just 32 years old.  Music fans may have been introduced to Hicks the same way I was

The Rise and Fall of Creed

Years ago, I got into a debate with a co-worker over the band Creed. He was a huge fan and I, on the other hand, was a doubter.

Dave Grohl is Everywhere!

Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl has been everywhere lately.  He’s been on 60 Minutes, HBO, Ellen, Letterman, and  the cover of Rolling Stone, just to name a few.  Has he been whoring himself out trying to promote his new album, Sonic Highways?  Is he going against some punk rock ethos that believes such blatant self-promotion is a bad thing?  Maybe.  And he doesn’t seem to care.

Dave Grohl isn’t the brooding
