Last year we were saddened to hear Hog Wild Days, a 30-year summer tradition in Hiawatha, was coming to an end. With RAGBRAI coming through Hiawatha last year, it was then announced that there would be no immediate replacement, but something would eventually come. This year, that has come true.

Come August, Hiawatha will begin a new summer tradition called Hiawatha Fun Fest.  With 30 years of history to draw from, fans of Hog Wild Days will find plenty to look forward to, including a parade and fireworks. While the date will move from June to August, and there won't be a full carnival, there will be plenty of other options to enjoy.

The two-day festival will still be held in Guthridge Park, and starts with a Friday night concert and Movie Under the Moon. Saturday will begin with a Kiwanis Pancake breakfast, a 5k Fun Run, parade around midday, then more live music and inflatable fun in the park, followed by fireworks Saturday night.

So mark the calendar for August 26th and 27th, and get ready for fun in Hiawatha.
