Iowa Teen Cited For Going 43 MPH Over Speed Limit

I think the old saying is "Kids say the darndest things." There was actually a TV show in the 90s made from that saying. Well, sometimes kids say and do the darndest things. I want to preface this by saying speeding can be very dangerous and lead to catastrophic results. You can hurt yourself or worse, hurt someone else who didn't deserve it.

According to Forbes Advisor, there has been a total of 61 speed-related fatalities so far, in 2023, in the state of Iowa. According to Forbes Advisors results, "there has been some improvement in this area. Nationwide, there has been a 2% decline in the percentage of deadly crashes caused by excessive speed since 2011."

Now that that part is out of the way...I can kind of empathize with this young driver.

According to KWWL, a Johnson County Deputy pulled over a teenager who was driving at 98 miles per hour on Highway 1, near Maier Avenue, with a speed limit of 55. This resulted in a fine close to $350 dollars and they could face a suspension of their license.

When the young driver was asked why they were going that fast, I believe they responded with a pretty honest answer. The teen said, "I just wanted to see how fast the car could go." I'm definitely not saying this was smart but I think there are a lot of drivers who can relate to doing something like this as a teenager.

There are even adult drivers who do this. This isn't the first teenager to have been pulled over for excessive speeding and it won't be the last. This kid is lucky it only resulted in a ticket and possibly a suspended license.

Hopefully, this person learns pretty quickly that there's no reason to be traveling that fast on a state highway. If you're interested in seeing how fast your car can go...bring it to one of the many race tracks in Iowa. There's no need to be endangering your and other people's lives.

Thankfully no one was hurt in this instance and all it ended up being was a pretty expensive lesson. If I was a teenager and had to pay for a $350 dollar ticket, I'd never want to speed again.
