When there is a drought, producers are forced to decide the best practices for managing their herds to avoid economic loss. These decisions can be anything from dealing with high feed prices to herd size reductions.
The good news is that almost the entire country east of the Mississippi isn't suffering drought conditions. The bad news is, Iowa sits on the other side of the river.
The U.S. Drought Monitor is updated each Thursday, and this week's update shows a large growth in both the "moderate" drought area and "abnormally dry" area.
Over 50% of Iowa is now experiencing "moderate" drought in the latest update, while nearly 90% of Iowa is considered "abnormally dry."
