A man who allegedly took a shotgun into the Cedar Rapids City Service Center the morning of August 23, was arrested this morning.

According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, 42-year-old Russell Jay Howard was arrested around 9 this morning. It had been previously reported that the suspect worked in the City Services Center building, which is at 500 15th Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids.

Howard faces a charge of Carrying Weapons and Unauthorized Possession of an Offensive Weapon for taking an altered shotgun, with a barrel length less than 18 inches, into the City Services Center just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 23. After the situation was resolved peacefully that morning, Howard was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He remained there until his release and subsequent arrest this morning.

He's being held at the Linn County Jail.
