KWWL Shake-Up: Ron Steele Leaving After 50 Years
Eastern Iowa television is going to look a whole lot different by this time next month.
On the evening of Tuesday, February 12th the KWWL social media team posted a cryptic message on the news team's Facebook page.

KWWL Is Becoming the News, Not Giving the News Lately
Recently, the station has been in the spotlight more so than usual. There was a brief scare when Allen Media Group, the ownership group of 22 news stations across the country, announced that they would be cutting back on local weather coverage.
KWWL is one of those stations.
The initial plan was to fire all of the local meteorologists at their stations and replace them with coverage from The Weather Channel. Luckily, the company reversed course, and it seems like everyone's job is safe for now.
KWWL's Big Announcement
During the 10 o'clock news on Tuesday night, longtime anchor Ron Steele announced he would be departing from KWWL.
"I have come to an agreement with and accepted an offer from KWWL which will end my career here," Steele said at the end of the broadcast.
"KWWL has been very generous to me and my family all these years. They have given me some amazing opportunities."
Steele has been working as a broadcast journalist for fifty years at this Eastern Iowa station.
His final day at the news desk will be Thursday, February 27th.
Steele said he's saving all of his goodbyes and thank yous for that night's broadcast.

While we don't know what's next for the veteran broadcaster, we do know that his wife is eager for him to "find a hobby."
