Even if you aren't into "beauty pageants" the Miss America competition will have you rooting for the young woman representing your state.

Not trying to play favorites over here, but I know I'll be rooting for Miss Iowa. Her message this year is one that is close to a whole lot of people's hearts.

Iowa's representative is 25-year-old Bailey Hodson from Berwick. She moved back to Iowa several years ago and was a seventh grade literacy teacher in Urbandale Community School District, according to reports.

On the second night of competition, Hodson won the social impact scholarship for advocating for bullying prevention. Specifically, her initiative is "The ABCs: The Anti-Bullying Campaign."

During the preliminary round, Hodson dove more into this project that she's taken on. It's personal to her, not only as a an educator, but as a former victim of bullying in school. She created successful curriculum to combat bullying in her own classroom.

"Teachers are the frontline to fight bullying," the young woman said.

An Iowa contestant has never won the title of Miss America in program history. If Hodson ends up taking home the crown, then she will be the FIRST Iowan to be named Miss America EVER.

The Miss America competition is taking place on December 12th through the 15th, with the winner being crowned on that Thursday. We'll make sure to keep you updated with details on just how well Miss Iowa does in the competition.

You can stream the event on PageantsLive.com as well as on the Pageants Live app on Roku, Samsung TVs, and Apple TV.

After seeing the current state of the property on Facebook, I was amazed that such an extravagant project could be so quickly overtaken by nature. Only two hours away from Waterloo, this abandoned field could have hosted some of the coolest and elite Hollywood parties in the Midwest. The current photos were taken by Gable Fry on a recent trip he took.
