Sweet Tooth Showdown: This Is Iowa’s #1 Candy Bar

It's awfully subjective to call something, anything, "Iowa's favorite," isn't it?

That has never stopped anyone from doing just that. Recently, World Population Review named "Starbursts" as our favorite candy.

That "study" that was based exclusively on internet searches, think Googling candy. So I decided to do my own study using Google Trends and find our favorite candy bar in Iowa.

Is it super scientific? Did I poll people in Iowa of all ages? Naw. But I did what other "pros" did and used our search history.

Who Made The Cut?

As mentioned above, I used Google Trends to comb through various candy bar searches done by Iowans.

I entered several different candy bars for consideration:

• Snickers
• Milky Way
• Twix
• 3 Musketeers
• KitKat
• Hershey's

And... this will be controversial, but I also added in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

I ran the search results for the past 12 months, and the results were... not shocking.

What is Iowa's Favorite Candy Bar?

The winner was Snickers, which had a healthy amount of search entries going into, and coming out of Halloween.

A very close second was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, which aren't a candy bar, I know, but I felt they should be on the list.

When focusing on shaped chocolates, or anything not called a bar, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and M&M’s are our top choices.

In other words, my results differed from the World Population Review results, which obviously used a different timeframe.

So, how'd my unsceintific study do? Is Snickers your favorite candy bar? I'd say it is mine, but, how do we know people weren't Googling "Snickers stinks" or something along those lines?

I guess we don't. Hence the unsceintific part...
