Silos & Smokestacks Honors 2025 Golden Silo Award Winners

The Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) has announced the winners of its 2025 Golden Silo Awards, recognizing exceptional efforts to preserve and share America’s agricultural story.

The awards were presented during a luncheon on November 6, celebrating individuals and organizations whose work strengthens the mission of the Heritage Area.

2025 Golden Silo Award Honorees:

• Outstanding Heritage Area Site: George Maier Rural Heritage Center, Elkader – for excellence in interpreting the story of American agriculture through authentic storytelling, community engagement, and preservation of rural life.

• Outstanding Preservation in Agriculture: Amana Heritage Society, Amana Colonies, for its continued dedication to protecting and promoting the living history of communal agriculture and craftsmanship.

• Rose Rohr Outstanding Volunteer: Henry Corbin – for his tireless volunteer service and support of heritage sites and programming.

• Outstanding Partner: Farmers State Bank, Waterloo, for its strong collaboration with SSNHA, especially through the Iowa Eats Food & Drink Festival.

• Alan Hutchings Outstanding Visionary: Reeve REA Power Generating Plant, Hampton, for more than five years of sustained support and leadership in heritage preservation, marking the 20th anniversary of this distinguished award.

Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area is one of 62 federally designated National Heritage Areas in the United States.

Partnering with more than 100 sites across northeast Iowa, SSNHA tells the story of American agriculture, past, present, and future, by connecting visitors to the people, places, and history that shape the region.
