Hawkeye basketball fans will surely remember the name, Keegan Murray, as the first-round draft pick out of the University of Iowa has a great shot at making NBA history in his rookie season. As the 4th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings, in the 2022 NBA draft, Keegan is hoping to break a record that was set in the 2017-2018 season by Donovan Mitchell.

As of today (Feb-28), Keegan and the Kings have 23 games left for him to make NBA history. If he can knock down 43 more threes, he will officially tie Mithcell's record for most three's made by a rookie in an NBA season. With 44, he will hold the record all by himself.

According to NBC Sports, Murrary has knocked down 68 threes in his last 25 games and has shot an incredible 45% from downtown.

Murray has had an incredible start to his career in the NBA and the Kings are already seeing a return on their investment. Sacramento is currently in 3rd place in the western conference and barring a total collapse in the final 23 games, they will surely be making an appearance in the NBA playoffs.

The only thing that could make a playoff appearance for Murray a little sweeter would be to break the record. At the NBA All-Star break, Murray already had some bragging rights. He made 137 three-pointers, which is the most threes ever made by a rookie before the break, according to NBC Sports. At that point, he had more threes than NBA star Luka Doncic and 3-point contest winner, Damian Lillard.

Go get the record, Keegan! We're rooting you on from Iowa!
