It's been very warm lately in Eastern Iowa. As I sit and type this the afternoon of October 21, it's 76 degrees. While far from unheard of, that's still well above average for this time in our neck of the woods.

While we enjoy the warm temps, and a chance to make the most of fall outside, our friends in Michigan... hm, after the Hawkeye game Saturday, maybe I should say our fellow Midwesterns in Michigan... well, they got some snow.

It's Not Terribly Uncommon

Snow this time of year is very common in some states, like Colorado where they have mountains. But it's also not terribly uncommon in the "Yooper" A.K.A. Michigan's Upper Penninsula.

Our friend... fellow Midwesterners in the Yooper got hit by some winter weather recently. It's a stark reminder some parts of our Midwestern family have a white Halloween.

Mark Frankhouse from our sister station WRKR reports the U.P. got some decent snow on October 15. It's not unheard of for the U.P. to get snow early... really early, but this is still a little earlier than average.

It's obvious people in Michigan get pretty excited about this sort of thing...

How do you feel about early snow? We have struggled to have a white Christmas in the last few years in Iowa. Last year was an overall very mild winter snow-wise. This year with La Nina, it's possible we'll have more snow than an average year.

If that excites you, stand by. If not, you might want to head to Florida. I think hurricane season is just about over.
