It feels like every year there's that one toy every kid wants for Christmas, and this year it's the Labubu.  These things are everywhere - TikTok, Instagram, every parent group on Facebook, so of course scammers are paying attention.

When something starts trending online, scammers will do what they always do best: pop up overnight with websites, ads, and "deals" that look way too good to be true.  Unfortunately, a lot of people fall for them!

Right now, the BBB Scam Tracker has 71 reports (and counting!) from parents who thought they were scoring authentic Labubu dolls... only to get knockoffs, or worse, absolutely nothing at all.  One parent shared they ordered a Labubu for their daughter's birthday from a "seller" on TikTok and soon after, the website completely disappeared.  Another parent bought multiple and received cheap, low-quality counterfeits!

It's bound to happen, especially with how much of a consumerism world we live in.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission actually issued a safety warning about the La"fufus" because they break apart easily, creating choking hazards for kids.  So it's not just about getting ripped off, it's about keeping the kiddos safe, too!

Keep in mind when you're looking for an authentic Labub:

  • Double-check and verify sponsored ads.  Anyone can plant them anywhere.
  • If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Read reviews.  Check for bots.
  • Use secure payment methods.

Most importantly, even if you get a fake Labubu, at least you got one (just don't tell your kids it's not the real thing)!  Some people don't receive their orders at all.  I have a ton of Lafufus and they look just the same as the real thing (well, sometimes a little flawed lol).
