One of America’s Hardest Colleges to Get Into Is in Iowa
Can you tell I have a one-track mind these days? My brain is basically set to “college” and hasn’t switched stations in weeks.
I’m trying my best to stay present and enjoy this year (which, by the way, feels like it's already flying by), but here I am, cranking out article after article about all things college for my kiddo. The best schools for student athletes? Wrote it. The hardest colleges to get into in Minnesota? Wrote that too. See? One track.
It’s not just work either, it’s mom life creeping in. I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m trying not to think too far ahead, but I can’t help myself. I want to know everything about what’s out there for him. And the deeper I dig, the more surprising the discoveries.
Like this little nugget: did you know Iowa, yes, Iowa, has one of the hardest colleges in the entire country to get into?
Let’s compare numbers. In Minnesota, the hardest college to get into has a 22% acceptance rate. Over in Wisconsin, their toughest school sits at 43%. Not bad, right? That's quite high compared to Iowa.

This one genuinely surprised me. Iowa’s hardest college to get into has a jaw-dropping 13% acceptance rate.
Grinnell College - a private, coed, residential liberal arts and sciences school in Grinnell, Iowa, with about 1,750 students - consistently ranks among the nation’s best liberal arts colleges. It also lands 43rd nationally on Niche's List of Hardest Colleges to Get Into.
And in case you’re wondering, the hardest college to crack? That honor goes to the California Institute of Technology - Caltech - where only 3% of applicants get in. Holy cow.
Mad props to all the people out there getting into these colleges. Super impressive!
