Man Performs Bad Nose Job On Himself After Watching DIY YouTube Videos
Nobody nose what was going through this guy's head... He thought it was a good idea, but it's snot.
On July 21st a man in Brazil ended up in a São Paulo hospital after he tried to give himself a nose job while watching a DIY (do it yourself) YouTube Video.
When arriving at the hospital, Doctors found that the man had performed a botched attempt at rhinoplasty on his own face.
A quick google search explains that Rhinoplasty (RIE-no-plas-tee) is surgery that changes the shape of the nose. The motivation for rhinoplasty may be to change the appearance of the nose, improve breathing, or both.
The unnamed Brazilian man told doctors he got the idea to perform his own nose job at home from a YouTube video. He used rubbing alcohol to disinfect the area, and a veterinary anesthetic to numb the pain. After he was done “operating”, he used self-absorbing thread and superglue to close the wound. He did not wear gloves while performing this self-operation.
A hospital press release read, “His sheet clarifies that, after being welcomed by the mental health medical team, the patient underwent care by the oral and maxillofacial team (BMF), which carried out the cleaning of the wound, dressing, and guidance on the necessary care. The patient was discharged from the hospital on the same day, in addition to being referred for a return visit with the BMF specialty.”
Medical professionals warn people that performing an at-home Rhinoplasty can alter their nose and leave them looking worse and lead to serious complications.
The Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) also published a warning statement on its official website, clarifying that rhinoplasty, “in addition to being an exclusively medical act, requires specialization and qualifications to perform.”
YouTube is working on taking these DIY videos down to keep people from doing dumb things, however, if you search DIY nose jobs, you will still find crazy videos.
