DoorDash Driver Accused Of Pepper-Spraying Food Order

A food delivery driver is accused of dropping off an Arby's bag and then pepper-spraying it, which of course was all caught on video by a doorbell camera.

Mark Cardin and his wife decided to order DoorDash just past midnight on early Sunday morning, and it wasn't long into eating that they realized something wasn't right.

“I noticed my wife had started eating and she started choking and gasping, and after she had a couple of bites of her food, she actually threw up,” he said.t

Mark checked the food a little closer.

“I had a look at the bag and saw that there was some kind of spray or something,” he told WECT. “The bag had been tampered with. So I pulled up my doorbell camera and saw that the lady who dropped the food off had actually tampered with it on purpose for some reason.”

The doorbell video shows the delivery driver dropping the food on the front step, then pulling something out and spraying the bag before leaving.

“It’s horrific,” he said. “We assume it’s pepper spray, that’s more than likely what it is, but now in this day and age, it could’ve been anything. It could’ve been rat poison, it could’ve been fentanyl. I mean, my wife could’ve been dead.”

Mark immediately called DoorDash and then the police. DoorDash refunded his money, but didn't seem to care much about investigating the incident.

"I definitely want to see her prosecuted," he said.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and the delivery driver could potentially face felony charges. Mark says that they don't know the driver personally, but they did give her a tip.

“I would say to anybody, if you order food on any kind of delivery service, make sure you have a doorbell [camera],” Cardin said. “This is making me second-guess ever ordering food from anywhere ever again.”
