The catfishing ends now.

If you've spent any time on a dating app or talking to a guy before you actually meet them, there's a good chance they have embellished something at some point. Most often, it's lying about their height.

That's honestly a stupid thing to catfish. Anyone with a moral compass knows that there are plenty of short kings out there who are absolute gems of humans. And interestingly, sometimes it's the tallest guys who are the biggest morons. It varies so much and fellas, nothing will jade the first impression quite like lying about your height.

The Stats To Keep In Your Mind

Newsweek has come out with the average height for men by state for 2024 with stats from Data Panda. While it's not a perfect guide to see if your date is lying, it might help you figure out just how many people are catfishing.

On average, U.S. men just aren't very tall. The national average is about 5'9", ranking 47th in the world for male height.

But men in Iowa and Illinois do rise (pun intended) above average.

And they're nearly identical, with Iowa men being slightly taller than Illinois men.

Illinois men are just a few points of a centimeter behind.

So if you see a whole bunch of men in Illinois and Iowa saying they're 6 feet and above, that statistically is not likely.

5'10" is a respectable height. I know it's a male ego thing but I can't drive home enough that women love short kings too.

In case you're bent on finding tall men though, head out to the Netherlands. Dutch men beat the rest of the world in male height, averaging 6'4".
