That One Cupcake Place is in the process of moving! According to a recent article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the shop is relocating from 766 N Center Point Rd in Hiawatha to 1121 Blairs Ferry Rd NE in Cedar Rapids.
That One Cupcake Place was started by owner Teresa back in 2009, when she began selling her homemade cupcakes at the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market. But, according to the website, it didn't officially get its name until 2011. Then, in October of 2012, Teresa opened her very own shop inside of NewBo City Market.
Thanks to their growing popularity, That One Cupcake Place opened a second location in Hiawatha in 2014. They ended up closing the NewBo location in 2018 to focus on the Hiawatha store, and that's where they've been operating out of ever since!
Something that sets That One Cupcake Place apart from some of the other bakeries is their use of local products. The website reads:
"We still hand scoop every batch. We don’t use box mixes. Nothing is ever frozen. We use a local, amazing dairy…Hansen’s Dairy.
Our boxes are from a local, Iowa business. Our stickers are from a local, Iowa business. We use Roaster’s coffee in our cupcakes and for sale in our store."
The new location for That Cupcake Place is across from the Blairs Ferry Target, right next to Domino's. They were aiming for an October 1st opening, but there have been a few unexpected challenges that has caused it to be postponed.
