Two people have been charged in the death of a Palo woman in mid-July. One of them is the woman's stepdaughter.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, 34-year-old Samantha F. Bevans of Palo and 38-year-old Tacoa Talley of North Liberty have both been charged with murder in the death of Bevans' stepmother.

Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff's Office found the body of 58-year-old Jodie Bevans inside a home in the 3300 block of 64th Street in Palo on Friday, July 15. They had been asked to conduct a welfare check at the residence.

The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Bevans's body. Her death was ruled "Undetermined and the Manner of Death-Homicide.

According to our news partner, KCRG TV-9, a criminal complaint states that Samantha Bevans had threatened harm to Jodie, her stepmother. They also say that investigators located a note, that Samantha had written. On Thursday, it said "Kill Jodie."

The complaint reportedly also reportedly says Samantha Bevans admitted to authorities that she had been involved in the killing, along with another person. Witnesses reportedly told authorities they had heard Samantha describe choking and suffocating Jodie Bevans.

KCRG also reports a Snapchat search warrant resulted in the discovery of a video created by Samantha. In that video, she allegedly said she planned the killing.

Tacoa Talley and Samantha Bevans are both being held on charges of First Degree Murder. Talley, who was charged this morning, is being held at the Scott County Jail.
