Questions Remain About the Shooting Incident At NorthPark Mall in Davenport

This was posted on the Davenport Police Department’s Facebook page as the event unfolded yesterday Monday, July 22, 2024.  “Please avoid the North Park Mall area at this time. At approximately 4:23 PM, a Davenport Police Officer working off-duty at the mall reported shots fired had just occurred from inside the mall. Additional Davenport Police Officers and local law enforcement responded. 

Initial information indicates one individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police have secured the mall and are currently investigating. No other injuries have been reported as of this time. The mall is currently closed while the incident is under investigation. Further information will be released when available. 

Management from North Park Mall has decided to close the mall for the evening following the investigation.”

What are the details regarding the shooting?

On Monday, gunshots fired at NorthPark Mall in Davenport, Iowa caused chaos as shoppers fled the scene. According to WHO 13, the shooting resulted in one person being injured, though authorities believe the injuries are non-life-threatening. 

The Davenport Police Department issued a statement on Facebook confirming that the wounded individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The incident took place inside NorthPark Mall, located in the east-central Iowa city near the Illinois border. 

As of now, police have not released additional details about the shooting, including how the person was injured or their identity. There have been no reports of other injuries, and it is unclear whether any suspects have been detained in connection with the shooting. 

The Davenport Police Department has secured the mall and it remains closed for the evening as the investigation continues. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the mall area. Video footage from the scene shows police officers and medics outside the mall complex as they work to resolve the situation.
