There Are Two New Eateries Coming to NewBo City Market
Get ready for some delicious new food options here in Cedar Rapids! NewBo City Market has revealed that there are some new shops coming this summer. The social media post reads:
"...we’re thrilled to announce that TWO more fantastic businesses will be joining the Market community this summer! Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing more about their openings and offerings very soon!"
Here are the things we know about the two new eateries coming to NewBo:
Bread and Buttered Bakery
Owned by Amber, who serves as the Master Baker, and Nikki, who is the business manager, Bread and Buttered Bakery has already made a name for itself at some Eastern Iowa farmers markets and festivals. Recent appearances include the Hiawatha Farmer’s Market, the Women's Festival, the Palo Farmers Market, and several pop-up markets at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids. The business' official website reads:
"Bread and Buttered Bakery is your destination for Sourdough home baked goods, specializing in sourdough bread, and a variety of delicious treat offerings that vary weekly. Some of our staple creations include sourdough cinnamon rolls, Sticky Pecan Buns, Chocolate chip cookies and organic gluten friendly granola varieties."
You can check out the full menu from Bread and Buttered Bakery's website HERE.
We don't know exactly when the local bakery will make its debut at NewBo City Market, but we will be sure to let you know when the information is released! In the meantime, you can follow Bread and Buttered Bakery on Facebook HERE.
Nechus
While we have quite a bit of information about Bread and Buttered Bakery, Nechus is still a bit of a mystery. They recently created accounts on Facebook and Instagram, and the first post reveals the type of food the new eatery will serve. It reads:
"Do you want to try something different? Nechus is coming soon to bring you the best of South American food, don't miss it! Stay tuned Guys!"
The photo indicates that the eatery will have offerings from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, and it mentions that arepas will be on the menu. According to Google, an arepa is a staple in both Colombia and Venezuela, and is described as a "flat, round bread or patty made from ground maize dough (masarepa)." They can be grilled, baked, or fried, and are often "split open and filled with various ingredients like cheese, meats, avocado, or beans."

Now Open: Smiley's Soups & Sandwiches
While you wait for those two new businesses to open inside of NewBo, you can always stop by and check out Smiley's Soups & Sandwiches, which just opened back in May! The popular food truck announced they would be moving into the market back in April, and the NewBo Facebook page says it's quickly become a "fan favorite."
Smiley's is well-known for their hot sandwiches, like the BBQ pulled pork, smoked brisket & cheddar, Philly cheesesteak, and Cubano. They also offer several cold sandwiches/wraps, salads, and sides. You can check out their official Facebook page HERE!
