Popular Uptown Marion Restaurant Abruptly Closes
Uptown Marion isn't a place that loses many businesses, much less a popular restaurant. The area continues to expand with new shops popping up often. But Tuesday saw news of the closing of a popular restaurant that left many people surprised and sad.
It was a random post on Facebook last night that got my attention. I'm a member of a group that centers on Marion businesses. A post asked the question, "What happened to Shorts in Marion?" The post was talking about Shorts Burger and Shine, the popular burger restaurant at 780 11th Street in Marion. Several comments stated that the restaurant had suddenly closed, and that employees were told on Tuesday. In fact, if you go to the restaurant's Facebook page you'll see that they are listed as 'permanently closed.'
It appears that Uptown Marion has lost a signature restaurant. I've been to Shorts in Marion several times and always had a great experience there. Their choice of burgers was second to none. Plus you could get any burger as a chicken sandwich if you wanted. The Marion location of Shorts Burger and Shine opened in October of 2019 according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The restaurant originated in Iowa City.
Will Shorts in Marion stay closed or is this a search for new ownership? Hopefully, we'll learn more details in the coming days. In the meantime, you can still enjoy your favorite burgers at Shorts at their Iowa City location at 18 South Clinton Street.
