Cedar Rapids Native’s Team No Match For Red Hot Iowa Women [PHOTOS]

Thursday night's game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena was a matchup between the 6th and 8th-ranked teams in women's college basketball. The 8th-ranked visitors had no shot in this one.

Cedar Rapids native Brenda Frese has had phenomenal success in her 20 years as the head coach of the Maryland women's basketball program. Thursday night in Iowa City, her team had no answer for the "law firm" of Clark & Czinano. Another Cedar Rapids native showed why everyone believes she'll soon be a star player for the Hawkeyes.

Thursday night, the Iowa offense was in top form. The Hawkeyes put up 29 in the first
quarter including 11 from Caitlin Clark (#22), who missed only one shot in the first ten minutes of action.

Iowa roared to a 56-38 halftime lead. At the break, Clark and Monika Czinano (#25 below) had combined for 42 points on 18 of 22 shooting.

In the second half, Maryland threatened to get back in it but was never able to get the margin under double figures. Iowa won the game 96-82.

Monika Czinano's final numbers: 28 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Caitlin Clark ended the contest with 42 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.

In what is amazingly becoming routine, Clark had another night that no one's matched in two decades:

Hannah Stuelke (#45 below), a first-year player from Cedar Rapids, had 13 points in the game for Iowa and battled all over the floor. Stuelke played for less than 17 minutes.

It was another night for Kate Martin (#20 below) and company to celebrate.

Both Clark and Czinano got some ESPN time after the game.

The 18-4 Iowa women, ranked 6th in this week's AP poll, has a road test this weekend. Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Iowa time, the Hawkeyes take on 13-10 Penn State. The game is televised by Big Ten Network.

Next Tuesday, Iowa visits #4 Indiana. The Hoosiers are 21-1 and ranked 4th in the nation. The 5:30 p.m. tip-off is also televised by Big Ten Network. Iowa will be trying for their 4th victory over a top 10 opponent this season.

*The University of Iowa announced Friday afternoon that the Sunday, February 26 home game against Indiana is sold out. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and be televised by ESPN. It will be Senior Day at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
