Iowa's leading rusher from just one season ago has announced that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Leshon Williams led Iowa in rushing in 2023 for a Hawkeye team that won 10 games. Now he has announced that he will end his playing days at Iowa and preserve his one year of remaining eligibility. Hawk Central reports that Williams made the announcement on Instagram where he thanked his teammates and coaches, but stated that he would enter the transfer portal to "pursue other opportunities." As a graduate student, Williams can enter the portal right away.

Williams fell down the Iowa depth chart in 2024. Hawk Central reports that he battled through a hamstring injury early, and then lost playing time to younger backs including Kaleb Johnson. Williams had just 11 carries for 21 yards in limited action this year for the Hawkeyes. The news of his departure came shortly after another Iowa player made headlines about his playing status.

Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown also announced on Monday that his playing days at Iowa are over. Hawk Central reports that Brown announced on Instagram that he will redshirt this season. Iowa announced later in the day that he would be leaving the Iowa program. Brown was a highly touted transfer from Ohio State who could never quite find his footing on the field at Iowa. Hawk Central reports that he had 22 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown last year for Iowa. This season Brown had just one reception for 19 yards against Troy.

Brown can enter the transfer portal as of December 9th.
