A beloved fried chicken chain is headed back to Cedar Rapids! According to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Harold's Chicken is making its return to the Corridor in the very near future!

Harold's Chicken has had a location in Cedar Rapids, not once, but twice within the last decade. The first was just a pop-up restaurant, which opened in 2016, but a permanent location opened shortly after in Downtown Cedar Rapids' Roosevelt building. There was also a Harold's Chicken that opened in 2016 at 316 E Burlington Street in Iowa City, as well as one in Waterloo. Both of those restaurants have since closed.

If you're not familiar with Harold's Chicken, the official website says that the chicken joint was started by Harold Pierce back in 1950. Over 70 years later, it is still a staple in the Chicago area, but there are now additional locations all over Illinois, as well as in California, Arizona, Nevada, Indiana, Georgia, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, and North Carolina.

The menu at Harold's Chicken obviously features the chain's signature fried chicken, but additional offerings include wings, tenders, catfish, shrimp, perch, liver, and gizzards. Sides include coleslaw, mac & cheese, okra, mushrooms, and more. You can also take home a bottle of the restaurant's famous sauce.

The Gazette reports that the new Harold's Chicken will be located at 4330 16th Ave SW, the former home of Hwy 30 Diner (read more about their new location HERE). They hope to open in January.
